peanutize yourselfOk, right out the gate, I want to say: I love "Peanuts." My family loves them. I love Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Pigpen. I love 'em all.
I was skeptical when they were being adapted for a film. I was worried. As worried as I have been for many an ill-fated remake/ reboot/ relaunch/ reworking/ reimagining/ retread/ whateveryouwanttocallwhat'shappeninginHollywood.
From what I can tell, I'm seeing some faithful renderings and treatments in this one. I'm lowering my guard.
Then this great promotion came out where you can peanutize yourself. Love it. It's a little limited. I was thinking to myself, well I can't quite fully peanutize myself, I've got a beard and then, of course, I reminded myself that I'm a "Wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wahhhhhhh" adult and there shouldn't be a beard choice for a bunch of kid characters. To peanutize yourself, you've got to revert to childhood. No problem.
this is moreso meCool thing is, I don't take things lying down. I really wanted to see me more realistically peanutized. No problem. That's what "Paint" is for. I threw that bad-boy up in Paint, whipped a few browns, light-browns, and yes -- realistically -- some grey in there.
Cool. I'm peanutized.
Then I wanted to share it with someone special in my life and encourage her to peanutize herself. But I thought twice. She spends a great deal of time in a wheelchair or on canes to help her walk. That's not a quick fix in Paint. That's something missing from THE WEBSITE where you can peanutize yourself. An absence of facial hair that you're unlikely to find on a Charlie-Brown-aged kid makes sense to me. (Of course, Charlie was famously bald -- not always something you see either.) But you don't have to look far to find kids in wheelchairs or using canes. Charles Schultz to the best of my knowledge never created a character in a wheelchair and that's ok. Really, people, it is. But a website encouraging everyone to make themselves over in a Peanuts image is sorely missing the option.
Now, please, I'm not angry. I am a little unimpressed by the team who put this website together. I'm not sure who the company is behind peanutizeme.com but the film is being made by Blue Sky Studios. I am going to reach out to them. It will not be in a vitriol-filled letter. It WILL be an open letter. Actually, it will be an open-postcard. That's all the space I need. It's a simple request and, I would imagine, a relatively simple (and quick turn-around fix) that I hope they act on. We'll see. Leave a comment below if you agree this should be implemented.
